A Dream within a Dream |
Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if Hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.
I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of golden sand
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?

Karma Comes Round
Exist for nothing an infectious disease.
Searching and planning, an innocent will please.
Inhaling the breath, your victim laid spread.
Feeding the monster, that lurks in your head.
Destroy all memories, walk with no fear.
Deliver your pain to the heart like a spear.
Filled with tears my eyes are blurred.
Can?t speak or sputter my words are slurred.
Helplessly I wait for your trophy showcase.
Ripped apart I stand in place.
My mind is weak, I stare at the walls.
Rats infest these dirty halls
I want to feel the numb is cold.
It?s been so long the pain is old
The twinkle has dulled my eyes are dry.
Where are the tears? I need to cry.
Beaten and bruised my body so weak
Ill have to run, ill try to sneak.
The pain will stop, I suffer no more.
Karma come round and evens the score.
You have no one left not even your mother,
Can?t gasp a breath? Now you may smother.
I try each day to gasp for breath.
Can?t feel my heart, I?m scared to death.
Bitter so sweet, you fall to your knees.
Beg for mercy, no one listens to your pleas.
I don?t feel sorry for you at all.
Sit trapped in your mind your heart so small
Your crimes have locked you up in a cell.
Your turn now, not doing so well
Soon the electric will run through your veins.
Killing the monster and scatter your brains.

Sorry if I'm being nit-picky, but the poem posted here is incomplete. It's missing the final couplet: "Is all that we see or seem\But a dream within a dream?" which I think ends it better not only rhythmically, but also psychologically. Poe ends the poem asking whether the statement he ended the first stanza with was actually correct, if everything really is a dream within a dream, and if he is unable to hold onto only one grain of hope. Wonderful poem from one of my favorite writers.
